We've now finished C1b - the second Chemistry unit (you've been doing the other one with Mr Britton). The exams for C1a and C1b will be on 28th June, but we'll be doing a second ISA before then. Now is the time to start revising, and the best way to do this is to practice questions.

P1b The Origins of the Universe
We watched a classic video about the size of the universe called 'Powers of Ten' - I can't find this original version on the web, but here is part of a good quality remake which just does 'zooming out':
POWERS OF TEN... the unimaginable size of our universe
This one does the 'zooming in' from the whole universe to the insides of a proton in the nucleus on a carbon atom in a strand of DNA in the nucleus of a single-celled organism in a drop of water on a blade of grass!

As well the order of sizes of moons, planets, stars and galaxies, you need to be able to explain what 'red-shift' is, and how the amount of red-shift from galaxies relates to their distance from us, and why this is evidence for the expansion of the entire universe, and therefore for the 'big bang' theory. This video explains this quite nicely:

The evidence that led to the 'big bang' theory taking over from the 'steady state' theory was 'cosmic background radiation'. This is explained (with a lot more detail than you need to know) here:
